“The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon and wife Nancy have welcomed a new addition to their life — a strapping studio apartment in 34 Gramercy Park East, the New York City co-op building where they already own four apartments.
Fallon was “super nice, really friendly and funny,” says Jessica Huff, the agent for the property, who spent only 10 minutes with the TV host when he viewed the apartment. Most of her dealings with Fallon were through an entourage of Fallon’s lawyer, business manager, his wife, and his wife’s assistant.
“I felt like I was watching his show,” Huff says. “He’s a very personable guy. His wife is really pretty. And they have an adorable baby, Winnie, who they dote on.”
The couple paid $725,000 for the top-floor studio (pictured below), next to the four-bedroom apartment Fallon bought in April for $1.35 million. The couple plans to use the studio as an office, says Huff of Halstead Property.
The Fallons now own five units — including two on the seventh floor and one on the eighth floor — of the roughly 36-unit building. That’s good news for other residents, because Fallon was named the most desired celebrity neighbor in a 2013 poll conducted by Zillow, the online housing marketplace.
The Fallons’ new, 550-square-foot studio apartment was totally renovated before hitting the market in March. It features drop-dead views of the Chrysler Building, soundproofing, and a modern kitchen with a Fisher Paykel dishwasher drawer. The Fallons closed on the apartment in July.
The ninth floor of the exclusive co-op, built in 1883, once housed servants of the well-heeled residents; until 15 years ago, the building’s elevator didn’t even reach the ninth floor.
34 Gramercy East is no stranger to celebs. Past residents have included actors James Cagney and Margaret Hamilton (the Wicked Witch of the West in “The Wizard of Oz”). The Gramercy Park neighborhood has been home to Julia Roberts, Uma Thurman and Winona Ryder, Huff says.
Gramercy Park is the last private park in New York City. Residents of buildings that ring the park pay $350 a year for a key that lets them in and out of the spot of greenery on Manhattan’s East Side. But Gramercy Park does not cater to kids, and it offers no swings or other play equipment, Huff says.
“They’re so strict. They don’t allow the kids to run, and you can’t bring dogs. They do not encourage children.”
